He died in 1924 in Christchurch aged 85, and was buried in Sydenham Cemetery, Christchurch (No. 4436)
Probate Record states he was a retired Storekeeper.

Richard married Alice LECKEY [10818] [MRIN: 4870] 16 Apr 1861 in Allhabad Uttar Pradesh India. Alice was born about 1839, died 29 Aug 1874 in Christchurch Canterbury New Zealand about age 35, and was buried in Barbadoes Cemetery Christchurch Canterbury New Zealand.

The cause of his death was burned to death in his shack at Waihi.
