2. Rev.Dr. William WRIGHT [99786] (William1) was born in Sep 1809 in Windsor Berkshire England, was baptised on 5 Sep 1809 in Windsor Berkshire England, and died on 20 Oct 1870 in Colchester Essex England at age 61.

General Notes: From a considerable Amount of Information on the Life of the Rev. Dr. William Wright, provided in a File of Information by Chris Wright in June, 2013, is included an Obituary on his Death, published in the East & West Suffolk Gazette on October the 21st, 1870. It reads as follows:
Dr W Wright, Headmaster of Colchester Grammar School
Death of the Rev. Dr. WRIGHT.

Another of our foremost and most useful public men has been struck down by the hand of death. The Rev. Dr. Wright, who has done so much service in his generation as Headmaster of Colchester Grammar School, and who only a few days ago walked amongst us with mental powers unimpaired and with means of usefulness apparently as great as ever, will be seen in our midst no more. He died after a short but painful illness yesterday morning. A blank is thus made which very many will regard with sorrow - and with good reason.

First, his own family, whose interests he kept so affectionately in view in the unceasing application of all his energies, and whose advancement he watched with some tender care; Next the many Pupils, whom he treated like a parent and taught like a scholar, and who must ever look back upon him with gratitude and love; and further, his Neighbours and friends with whom he mixed in society, and who enjoyed the advantage of his polished, edifying, and Christian conversation; all these will regret his loss and venerate his memory, as well as his parishioners at Berechurch, whom he tended so assiduously as a spiritual pastor. Unremitting attention to his duties was the distinguishing feature of the character of the lamented gentleman, and his hours of repose from his arduous occupations he studied to make profitable and agreeable to his family and friends.

He was a member of the University of Cambridge, and graduated as a Wrangler in the year 1833. His active life was throughout its whole course devoted to teaching; first at London University College,- afterwards at Huddersfield, then at Leamington, and finally at Colchester, where he was elected from amongst many candidates as Head Master of the Grammer School in 1851. Those who remember what the Grammer School was before the care of it was committed to him, and see what it is now, will be able to form some estimate of what the town owes the Rev Dr Wright. The expenses necessarily attendant on the education of a numerous family, and his endeavors to promote to the utmost the interests of the School and the comforts of his Pupils, prevented him from making anything like a provision for his declining years, had it pleased the All-wise Disposer of Events to prolong his life after the discharge of the duties of his office should have become impossible, But that was not the case. He died, so to say, at his work; and he has left the memory of essential services rendered to many, and of Christian courtesy exhibited to all; and Corchester may well number him amongst her departed worthies, and offer a tribute of sincere sympathy to his Widow and children in their sad bereavement. In addition to his duties as Master of the Grammer School and Curater of Berechurch, Dr Wright was Chaplain to the Borough Gaol and indefatigable in his attention to the spiritual wants of the prisoners....
