17. Jean RIDDELL [83180] (Walter10, Walter 14th Laird of Riddell9, George5, John4, James3, Unknown2, Quintin1) was born in 1561 in Roxburghshire Scotland and died in 1623 in Peebles Peebleshire Scotland at age 62.

Jean married Alexander HORSBURGH [83181], son of Alexander HORSBURGH [83182] and Christian STEWART [83183], on 24 Jun 1581. Alexander was born in 1557 and died in 1662 at age 105.

"in as Son John of Salowes Norfolk by a dau Urquhart of Cromarty"

James married Bessie ALLAN [112580], daughter of Adam ALLAN [112586] and Mawsie STEVENSON [112587], on 12 Nov 1607 in Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland.

The child from this marriage was:

+ 38 M    i. James RIDDELL of Kinglass [112557] was born in 1608, was baptised on 20 Dec 1608 in Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland, and died in 1674 in Bo'ness Midlothian Scotland at age 66.

20. Sir John RIDDELL Kt, 1st Bart. [55707] (Andrew 15th Laird of Riddell14, Walter 14th Laird of Riddell9, George5, John4, James3, Unknown2, Quintin1) was born in 1576 in Galashiels Selkirkshire Scotland and died on 12 Jul 1636 at age 60.

General Notes: In a Document received from Gail Riddell in November 2017, she quoted from Wikipedia's Article on the Baronetage of Nova Scotia as follows:
The Baronetage of Nova Scotia was devised in 1624 as a means of settling the plantation of that province. King James VI announced his intention of creating 100 baronets, each of whom was to support six colonists for two years (or pay 2000 marks in lieu thereof) and also to pay 1000 marks to Sir William Alexander, to whom the province had been granted by charter in 1621.[2]

James died before this scheme could be implemented, but it was carried out by his son Charles I, who created the first Scottish baronet on 28 May 1625, covenanting in the creation charter that the baronets of Scotland or of Nova Scotia should never exceed 150, that their heirs apparent should be knighted on coming of age (21), and that no one should receive the honour who had not fulfilled the conditions, viz, paid 3000 marks (£166, 13s. 4d.) towards the plantation of the colony.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] Four years later (17 November 1629) the king wrote to the contractors for baronets, recognising that they had advanced large sums to Sir William Alexander for the plantation on the security of the payments to be made by future baronets, and empowering them to offer a further inducement to applicants; and on the same day he granted to all Nova Scotia baronets the right to wear about their necks, suspended by an orange tawny ribbon, a badge bearing an azure saltire with a crowned inescutcheon of the arms of Scotland and the motto Fax mentis honestae gloria. As the required number, however, could not be completed, Charles announced in 1633 that English and Irish gentlemen might receive the honour, and in 1634 they began to do so. Yet even so, he was only able to create a few more than 120 in all. In 1638 the creation ceased to carry with it the grant of lands in Nova Scotia, and on the union with England (1707) the Scottish creations ceased, English and Scotsmen alike receiving thenceforth Baronetcies of Great Britain.

+ 41 M    i. Sir Walter RIDDELL 2nd Bart.,M.P. [34337] was born about 1601 in Roxburghshire Scotland and died on 2 Aug 1672 aged about 71.

+ 42 M    ii. Sir William RIDDELL [55747] was born in 1603 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland, died in 1676 in Doesburg Gelderland Province Holland at age 73, and was buried in 1676 in The Great Church at Doesburg Holland.

   43 F    iii. Agnes RIDDELL [112780] was born circa 1605 and died in 1635 aged about 30.

Agnes married Sir Thomas KER [112781] in 1630. Thomas was born in 1593 and died in 1681 at age 88.

   44 M    iv. Capt. John RIDDELL [55749] was born about 1610.
