General Notes: George used to tell the story of his Great Grandfather and his two brothers who swam acroos the St Lawrence River from the United States. They made a pact not to tell anyione about there plans should one of them not make it. Apparently the twobrothers drowned and only one survived.

General Notes: OBITUARY
SIDNEY P. OWENS
Citizens of the Lindsay area were saddened to hear of the untimely passing at age 58 of a former area resident and Cambray School teacher, Sidney P Owens, in Alliston, following his morning walk.
Born in Mariposa in 1918 Sidney Owens was the som of the Late Mr and Mrs. Herman Owens. He attended a rural public schooll, the Lindsay Collgiate and graduated from Peterborough Normal School.
His teching career began in Cambray while working on his BA which he completed at Queens University where he met his wife, the former Jean Telford.
In 1969 Mr Owens, a former principal of Banting Memorial High School, was appointed a superintendent of the Simcoe County Board of Education, and he was also head of the night school programs in Simcoe County
Sidney Owens was an active member of St. John's United Church at Alliston where he served in many capacities including Sunday School superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, a church elder and a member of the building and planning committee.
Remaining to mourn his passing in addition to his wife Jean, are five sons, John of Toronto, David near Lindsay, Andrew of Alliston, Robert attending University in Calgary, and Richard at Waterloo University and one daughter, Mary, at home.
History: Also surviving are two grandchildren, Rhonda and Mark, and twop sisters, Sarah ( Mrs. B. Tamlin) and Jean ( Mrs. O. Walling) both of Lindsay. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Jack
The body rested at the John Thomas Funeral Home thence to St. John's United Church for service and committal with his minister, Rev James F. Shilton in Charge. Spring interment will follow in Alliston Union Cemetery
