General Notes: Various Sources say that Mary Jane adopted 3 of her Nieces after the Death of her Sister Charlotte in the Railway Disaster. They were Blanche, Hilda and Imogen.
HOWEVER, based on Information provided by Lesley Cains in November 2011, it appears that Mary Jane [Kincaid] Dell died in the Blaauwkrantz Bridge Railway Disaster, perhaps along with her Sister Charlotte.
More Information from Lesley Cains, received in Movember 2011 included the following from a Post on RootsWeb by Tessa King replying to Becky ???. It included:
Thank you so much for sharing this very moving account of the Blaauwkrantz Disaster. This article originally appeared in the Sunday Times of 28 May 2000 which I was prompted to read because my DELL family lost family and friends in this disaster. They had all been to the wedding of Walter Reuben Dell and Florence Mary FORD on 21 April 1911 at the St. James Anglican Church, Southwell. Walter's bachelor brother, Cornelius Edward DELL was one of those killed.
Cornelius and his cousin's wife Mary Jane DELL nee KINCAID (married to Edward Richard DELL) had bought a farm named 'Haddon Hall' as a partnership after Edward had died in 1884. Mary Jane had also adopted two nieces after her husband died. They were the daughters of Richard SMITH, namely Hilda Lillian Smith Dell and Imogen Smith Dell. They apparently had five other siblings. Sadly Mary Jane was also killed in this disaster. She had also inherited the farm 'Edendell' from her husband, the running of which was taken over by Hilda's husband Alfred Charles Melbourne TAINTON, whilst Imogen inherited Cornelius' (aka Neilly) share of Haddon Hall'. She was married to Alton MORGAN. Wonder whether the SMITH children mentioned in the article were related to these Smith children?
These are some of the other names of which I am aware because I have them in my tree:
Clifford Witheridge DOLD and his wife Ethel Rose Emily nee MATTHEWS and their three children, Vincent Witheridge, Cyril Witheridge and May Witheridge DOLD.
Paul TARR, husband of Rebecca Maud TIMM.

Noted events in her life were:

• Death: in the Blaauwkrantz Bridge [Kowie Railroad] Disaster, 22 Apr 1911, Grahamstown Albany Cape of Good Hope.

Mary married Edward Richard DELL [92868] [MRIN: 30970]. Edward died on 14 Jun 1884.

+ 19 F    iv. Charlotte KINCAID [43190] was born about 1855 and died on 22 Apr 1911 in Grahamstown Albany Cape of Good Hope aged about 56.

   20 M    v. George Alexander KINCAID [92867] was born on 4 Jul 1858 and died on 9 Jul 1860 at age 2.
