7. Ann BROOKS [43127] (George3, Robert2, John1) was born in 1799 in Westbury on Trym Bristol Gloustershire England, was baptised on 08 Dec 1799 in Holy Trinity Church Westbury on Trym Bristol Gloustershire England, and died on 13 Nov 1876 in East London Cape of Good Hope at age 77.

Ann married Richard TAINTON [43126] [MRIN: 15531], son of Richard TAINTON [56349] and Julia Catherine [56350], on 09 Nov 1819 in Holy Cross Church Temple Street Bristol Gloucestershire England. Richard was born on 11 Apr 1797 in Bristol Gloucestershire England, was baptised on 16 Apr 1797 in St Paul's Bristol Gloucestershire England, and died on 07 Apr 1862 in "Vermont" Peddie District of Cape of Good Hope at age 64. The cause of his death was Apoplexy [Stroke].

General Notes: Richard married Ann Brooks who was of Quaker parentage. His family refused to accept this marriage of his to a Quaker girl as they were all Church of England. They came out in 1820 in company with the Rev. Mr. Shepstone, father of Sir Theophilus Shepstone who had married Mrs. Tainton's sister.
Richard G. Tainton (Special Magistrate of King William's Town), John Tainton (his brother, Inspector of Police) and Mr. W.C. Brown (Field-Cornet) were murdered at a farm on the Kwelegha River during the Gaika-Galeka War (9th Kaffir War) on the 31st December 1877. He died at Vermont in the Peddie District.
Elizabeth Tainton, daughter of Mr. Tainton of the British Kaffraria translated the Anglican Prayer Book into Zulu with her cousin, Sir Theophilus Shepstone. She became the mother of Mr. L'Ange a grandson of the Chief Physician of the Russian Court at the time of Napoleon Bonapart when he married Princess Gunther of Schleswig Holstein. L'Ange was born at Fort Pedie in 1848 and was educated at the Blue Coat College in Jersey. He was trained for the diplomatic service but came to South Africa when the Kimberley diamond mines were opened. In 1883 he went to the Transvaal where he married Ernestine Rex daughter of Wellington Rex.
