20. Joseph Henry HODDER [50908] (Walter⁴, William³, Eli², William¹) was born on 01 Oct 1844 in Wellington Wellington New Zealand, died on 14 Jul 1919 in Featherston Wairarapa New Zealand at age 74, and was buried on 16 Jul 1919 in Featherston Cemetery Wairarapa New Zealand.

General Notes: Mr. Hodder (Walter) had bullock wagons and operated a goods service from Wellington to Greytown. One of his wagons carted timber for the first Wellington Town Hall. His son, Mr. J. H. Hodder [Joseph Henry], worked for his father as a wagoner and in the 1870's when the Rimutaka railway line was being put through drove a donkey pack team carrying sleepers up the hill from Cross Creek. Later, when horses were in general use, he helped to form many roads in the Featherston district. Causes of death carcinoma of stomach and astema. Intervals between onset and death 6 months. Reference Death certificate 373 - registration Featherston dated 21 August 1975. Had land at Underhill Road, Featherston, in later years. Joseph Henry worked for his father as a wagoner, in the 1870's, when the Rimutaka railway line was being built. He drove a donkey pack team carrying sleepers up the hill from Cross Creek. Later when horses were in general use, he helped to form many roads in the Featherston district. Joseph Henry had a wagon/cart he used to bring to town. Horse had belonged to a baker beforehand and it would stop when someone spoke. Joseph Henry had a rocking chair on the cart, and whilst William Albert was taking Joseph Henry home from the hotel, Joseph Henry would start to sing - horse stopped suddenly and Joseph Henry fell over backwards off the cart.
