General Notes: In an attachment to an email, dated February 19, 2003, Sylvia Robertson said:

Eldon went to the Wairenga School where he won a silver medal for his running ability. On leaving school at 14 yrs old, he worked on the family farm with his father. The farm was in Falls Rd.

In his teenage years he belonged to the Maramarua Hunt Club, also attended Maramarua dances and balls along with his sisters Zoe & Beryl. Eldon also enjoyed duck shooting for most of his life.

In his late teens he joined the Army, but then changed to the Air Force at the outbreak of WW2. Near the end of the war he met Joan in PN, but a few weeks later he was posted to the Islands. Eldon was injured in a jeep accident and sent back to NZ to convalesce at the American Hospital at Papakura.

Whilst there he rang Joan, asking for her hand in marriage. Eldon suggested next week but Joan said, "No, make it 2 weeks" and they were married 2 weeks later. Eldon want back to hospital for six weeks after their marriage.

Joan had been nursing at Northcote Private Hospital in Grey St, PN. Her schooling was at Marton District School and her hobbies as a young girl were knitting and sewing.

Eldon and Joan settled onto the Drake farm, taking over the farm about a year later. They sold the farm in 1966, firstly share-milking at Papakura for 6 months, then at Lee for a year.

Next Eldon worked as a security guard at Waikeria Prison for a year before settling in Papakura. Eldon then worked for many years at the Glenbrook Steel Mills, and Joan worked at the Raventhorp Hospital. Before retiring, they went for an overseas trip, firstly to Sydney, Australia then onto Japan.

When Eldon first moved to Papakura he took up the hobby of racing pigeons. He did not keep good health. He had Alzheimers in the last 4 years of his life, Joan caring for him until he finally needed hospital care. Joan still loves her gardening.

Eldon married Joan Isabella Mary WILLIAMS [9281] [MRIN: 4422], daughter of Alex Lloyd WILLIAMS [9282] and Margaret Christina PATTERSON [9283].

Zoe & Maurice met when both were serving in the Airforce during WW2.

Maurice had his own business, building homes mainly in the Mt Roskill area, then later working with his brother Ron. He was on the committee of the Three Kings Amateur Athletics Club for some years, and also assisted with the local Scout Group where his boys attended.

Zoe attended Wairenga School. During her married life she worked in the fasion dept of Rendell's store for about 15 years.

Zoe married Stanley Maurice SCHUBERT [9293] [MRIN: 4429].

General Notes: In an attachment to an email, dated February 19, 2003, Sylvia Robertson said:

Beryl was raised on a farm at Maramarua where she attended Wairenga School and Island Block School, and also went to Wellington Girls' High School. She joined the Air Force and was stationed at Whenuapai where she met Ron.

Ron's parents bought the Tapu Hotel on the Coromandel Peninsula in 1939, and lived there for 4 years before moving to Remuera, Auckland. Ron was educated at Epsom Primary School and Seddon Technical College, then joined the Air Force.

Beryl worked at Babette Baby Shop in Karangahape Rd, Auckland, and did hand knitting which was sold in the shop. Ron then worked for a building firm, and in the early 1950s they moved to Otorohanga where he went into partnership with his brother Norman. They returned to Auckland in 1963, settling in Hillsborough, and Ron joined his other brother, Maurice, as building contractors for Sunline Homes. He later workedas a building supervisor with the same company until his retirement. Beryl worked as a machinest for Venlite Industries until she became ill. She also had a corgi dog, Saki, with which she won many medals.

Beryl married Ronald Robert SCHUBERT [9301] [MRIN: 4434] on 26 Feb 1949 in St Mark's Remeura Auckland New Zealand. Ronald was born on 17 Jan 1925, died on 31 May 1995 at age 70, and was buried in Mangere Cemetery Auckland New Zealand.

Dot moved with her family from the Te Kauwhata farm in 1945, and was educated at Mt Albert & Three Kings Primary Schools, and Mt Roskill Grammar School.

Doris started in 1955 as a junior shop assistant in babywear at George Courts, then went to Milne & Choyce, and worked on Saturdays as a nurse aid at the Cornwall Hospital geriatric unit.

Dot and Colin met at a football dance at Mt Roskill in 1957, and were engaged in 1961. Shortly after their marriage in 1962, Colin was promoted to branch shop manager while Dot worked for Flexible Packaging and Autocrat, leaving before the arrival of their first child.

After Colin was made redundant in 1982, so they bought their own butchery in Symonds St, Auckland, selling out in 1987.

Dot was employed as a telephone receptionist with DIC, Milnes and, since 1989, the New Zealand Dairy Board.

During her teens, Dot was very successful in club athletics, school basketball and tennis. She was a Tawny Owl at Brownies and during the 1960s she was a member of the Mt Roskill Plunket Society Cttee and secretary for a year. Her other interests include cake decorating,sewing and genealogy.

Doris married Colin Joseph CLARK [9310] [MRIN: 4438], son of Charles Edward CLARK [15449] and Gwladys Rubina HARDY [15450].
