In the name of God Amen the twenty day of August in the ninth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles by the Grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the faith etc and in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred thirty and three I Thomasine Denne of Dennehill in the Parish of Kingston in the County of Kent widow being of sound mind and perfect memory (for which I give God hearty thanks) do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say. First I bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and blessed Redeemer relying on the death and passion of Jesus Christ for the remission of my sins and life everlasting and my body to be buried at the discretion of mine Executor.
Item I give unto the poor of the Parish of Kingston aforesaid forty shillings.

Item I give unto Anne, Elizabeth and Frances daughters of Mary Osborne my daughter for every one of them each a dozen of silver spoons and I do further give to every one of them two pairs of sheets one pair of pillowcases one tablecloth one towel and one dozen of napkins to be delivered them by my Executor at their several days of marriage.
Item I give unto John Osborne son of my daughter Osborne one ring worth twenty shillings to be paid and delivered him by my Executor at his age of one and twenty years.
Item I give unto Katherine Pordage(?) my goddaughter one ring worth twenty shillings to be paid and delivered unto her at her day of marriage.
Item my will and mind is that if my said son Thomas Denne shall make any claim or challenge unto any of my moveable goods or household stuff now or at the time of my decease in Denhill House now ? that which was given to John Denne my son deceased by his father's will or shall pay any claim or shall trouble my Executor for any wont or money which I have anyway ? or shall trouble my Executor for any due or debts which he may claim and due unto him from me then my will and mind my said son Thomas Denne nor any of his children shall gain or receive the benefits of any legacy from me in this my last Will and Testament to them or any of them by me bequeathed.
Item I give to every one of the servants that shall be dwelling with me at the time of my decease ten shillings apiece to be paid unto them within one month after my decease.
The residue of all my moveable goods debts and chattels whatsoever not formerly by me bequeathed after my funeral debts and legacies be paid and discharged I give unto Vincent Denne my son whom I make and ordain sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. Henry went to be educated by his uncle Thomas Denne at Latton, Essex (near Harlow) before he went onto Sidney Sussex College Cambridge at the age of 14. He became a notable cleric and in 1644 was sent to prison in Cambridge for preaching against infant baptism. Two years later he was committed to Lincoln jail for baptising four adults at Spalding. He then resigned his living and became a soldier in the Parliamentary Army. He became a leader of the Levellers <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levellers> and was condemned to death by General Thomas Fairfax. Three others were executed but Henry Denne was given a last minute reprieve by Oliver Cromwell.
At the conclusion of the Civil War Denne took to preaching again and the defence of the Quakers and the Tinker of Bedford <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bunyan> (John Bunyan). He died in 1660 and was described as "the ablest man in the kingdom for prayer, expounding and preaching".

Thomas Denne, entered Clare College, Cambridge on 1585 and the Alumni record shows he was born in Littlebourne about 1565 and died in 1640 (possibly in Netteswell). These are the exact dates of Oliver Cromwell!
Thomas was vicar of Latton from 1600 to 1632 and was succeeded by his son Thomas from 1632 to 1680. Both Dennes were closely associated with the Altham family, whose head, Sir James Altham, was a royalist in the Civil War, but they were diligent pastors, well regarded by the puritans. The younger Thomas Denne had been chaplain to Sir Edward Altham (d. 1632).
