12. Elizabeth SIPPI [11653] (Rose BAGGE5, James (Rev.)3, James2, James (Rev.)1) was born 05 Sep 1866 in St.Thomas Ontario Canada and died in 1956 at age 90. Another name for Elizabeth was Lizzi.

Elizabeth married Norman J DINNEN [11677] [MRIN: 5139].

General Notes:Norah McWilliam writes in and eMail, My grandfather (George Sippi) died when my mother was just 7 weeks old and my grandmother when she was 7 years. It is my understanding that the Dinnens were interested in adopting her, but my grandmother’s family (Buchan) kept her. The story goes that Norman made a million dollars 3 times but died after losing the third million. I don’t remember what he did for a living or whether this was investments.
A story I remember about him (Norman) is the fact that he must have had fairly modern technology as he had an amateur radio. He heard a “may day” from somewhere on one of the oceans and was able to report this and initiate a rescue.

The child from this marriage was:

   35 M    i. John Charles DINNEN [11678] was born 03 Aug 1899.

General Notes:In an eMail, dated March 28, 2005, Norah Toth wrote:

I have found a newspaper clipping, with no date or year that may be of interest. It was in a box with a bunch of other letters to my Mom dated 1931 so I am assuming it is 1931, but do not know the date for sure. It is about Norman Dinnen’s son – John.
I will quote:
“ Dinnen – Fansett
The marriage of Gladys Jane Fansett to Mr. John Charles Dinnen, son of Mr. and Mrs. N.J. Dinnen, of this city, was solemnized in St. George’s church at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. Henry Martin officiating.
The church was adorned about the altar and chancel rail with clusters of palms and ferns, Tall standards filled with brilliantly toned gladioli, flanked the chancel steps and here and there was interspersed other summer bloom. The pews reserved for the guests were designated by large white tulle bows.
Mr. T. Leonard Norris-Elye presided at the organ and accompanied the service with soft and appropriate music.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her uncle, Mr. A. J. Fansett, wore a becoming gown of poudre blue moiree, the basque bodice topping the full skirt which revealed vandyke points, the novel ragged princess hemline being accentuated by the length of the skirt in the back and front panels. Her had was of matching blue felt, with slightly dropping brim adorned with gros-grain ribbon with touches of silver. She carried a shower bouquet of Ophelia roses and valley lilies with streamers of the blossoms falling the full length of her dress.
She was attended by Miss Velma Swan as maid of honor, who wore an apricot flat crepe period frock showing the uneven hemline, and large black hat with silver ribbon trimmings. She carried a bouquet of shaded yellow gladioli.
Mr. Andrew Clifford acted as best man.
The ushers were Mr. Frank Wright and Mr. Charles Swinford.
Following the church ceremonial, a reception was held at Mr. and Mrs. Dinnen’s residence, Oxford St. where the decorations were evolved of sweet peas, nasturtiums and snapdragons.
Later the bride changed her wedding attire for a travelling dress, an ensemble of beige crepe back satin, with reverse trimmings of nigger brown, with coat of beige kasha. Her hat was a model of matching satin with side brown feather mount.
Mr. and Mrs Dinnen left on the southbound train for Minneapolis and Chicago and will also visit the principal Eastern Canadian centres before returning to reside in the Tuxedo apts., Langside st.
Mrs Dinnen, mother of the groom, chose a handsome toilette of beige georgette with matching felt hat.
Mrs. Neil Lightly, of Stoughton, Sask. aunt of the groom, wore black crepe back satin with beige picture hat.
Mrs. A. F. Fansett, aunt of the bride wore black crepe with black hat.”
Mrs. Dinnen (mother of the groom) would have been Lizzie Sippi. Mrs. Neil Lightly was Rosa Sippi.
