In the 1840 Federal Census Mark, age 30 is living in Washington, Warren, Ohio with his family. This census only gives Head of Household names and then just a mark under specific age groups under male and female columns. There is one mark in the column 5/10 age so that would be William, age 7 and one mark in the column 30/40 age and that would be Mark. Under the female side there is one mark in the "under 5" column and that would be Grace Ann, age 4 and one mark in the 30/40 age column and that would be his wife Elizabeth, age 33.
In the 1850 Federal Census Mark, age 40 is living in Washington, Warren, Ohio with his wife, Elizabeth, age 42 and their children, William H., age 16 Grace A., age 13 and John L., age 3. Mark is working as an Auger Smith and William is a laborer. Mark's real estate value is 500.
In the 1860 Federal Census Mark, age 50 is living in Washington, Warren, Ohio with his wife, Elizabeth, age 53 and their children, Grace A., age 23 and John, age 13. Next door to them is their oldest son, William, age 27 with his wife, Louisa, age 28. Mark is working as a farmer and his real estate worth is 2,000 and his personal estate is 500. Grace is a domestic.
In the 1870 Federal Census Mark, age 60 is living in Washington, Warren, Ohio with his wife, Elizabeth, age 62 and their son, John W., age 24. Mark is still a farmer and his worth is increasing. His real estate value is now 3,000 and his personal estate value is 500. John is a farm laborer.
SUICIDE MARK ARMITAGE, a well-to-do farmer who resided near Freeport, committed suicide on last Thursday morning, by shooting himself in the mouth with a cavalry carbine. The day before he attempted to shuffle off the mortal coil by throwing himself in front of a railroad train but a neighbor discovered his intention and frustrated it by tearing him from the track.
Mr. Armitage recently lost a piece of land in Clinton County through a defective title and being an ardent lover of the root of all evil, it is inferred that this misfortune maddened him. Coroner Corey held an inquest and found a verdict in accordance with the above facts. Mr. Armitage was seventy years of age.

" OBITUARY

Seth Armitage was born in Upper Canada, on Yonge Street, New Market Post Office, Nov. 24, 1813. Moved with his parents, Seba and Eleanor Armitage, to Middletown, Butler Co., O., in 1817. He joined the M. E. Church in Lebanon, Warren Co., O., in 1819. Moved to Camden in 1841, about eighteen months later moving to the farm where he died, having lived there over fifty years. His death occured April 14, 1896, his age being 82 years, 4 months and 21 days. On June 6, 1833, he was married to Prucia Thayer. To this union five children were born, one of whom is now living. His first companion died Sept. 8, 1844. In 1845 he was married to Eloisa Timberlake. To this Union eight children were born, of whom seven survive him.

On his removal to Camden he identified himself with the movement which finally resulted in the formation of the Camden M. E. Church, his name appearing in the very earliest record of Methodism in this vicinity. He was always a liberal and loyal supporter of the church. His home being church and preachers headquarters for a great many years. He was a prominent figure in every revival and movement for the upbuilding of the church which he loved so well. Many of the middle aged and older members of the church here date their conviction and conversion from the pointed conversations held with him. He was ever an inspiration to the young convert and in every way sought to teach the simple fervent faith which he himself experienced. His entire family are members of the M. E. Church. While prominent in the affairs of the church, he was no idler in matters pertaining to the social and political development of his country. Ardent in h is political opinions, bold in their expression, he never failed to perform his whole duty as a citizen. While he never held any public office, he was, during his lifetime the administrator of a very large number of estates, the estate of William Freeman being his last active work. In his business affairs he was scrupulously honest, his dealings being of a character which won the confidence of all with whom he was thrown in business relation.

When he first came to the township there were only six resident voters, and for a number of years he cast one of the two republican votes of the township. During the war his time and money were spent for the relief of the wives, widows and orphans of the soldiers. His patriotism and loyalty are well known to the older residents who stood by his side during the dark days of our country's peril. It was only when feebleness and age compelled him that he reluctantly laid aside the activities of life to rest a little while in the midst of his family before being called to his reward.

His life is its own best eulogy. No word of man can add to or detract from its record. He is gone, we mourn his going and pray God to spare and deal gently with his mourning companion and heart broken children.

The funeral took place from the late home of the deceased. Rev. Will E. Grose officiating; the sermon being on the "Death of Moses," the text being Deut. 32:49,50. The singing was conducted by old friends of the family, the hymns being "There is a land of pure delight," "Jesus lover of my soul," "How firm a foundation" and "Is not this the land of Beulah."

A remarkable feature of the occasion was the exceedingly large number of aged people attending the service. It was probably the largest attended occasion of the kind ever held in the township.

Camden, Indiana was at one time New Lisbon, Indiana. Camden was renamed to Pennville, Indiana when they discovered that there was already a Camden, Indiana elsewhere.
She goes on to say:
Technically, none of the Armitages actually died in Camden, because our family farm (yes, "our", I lived there until I was 7) is 1 mile south of Pennville. This could have been a greater distance back in the 1800s, depending on where the edge of town was at the time.

The Lindsay Advocate 23 june 1865:
Sad Accident. On Friday last Mr Jessie Armitage, of Mariposa, was kicked by a stallion and his skull so badly broken that a portion of the brain oozed out. The medical attendants, we are informed, state that there is not a shadow of a chance for him to recover.
